It was all going fine, planes were on time, bags in tow, car picked up and then...
We pulled over at a "toll station" where people stop to pick up a fast teal or Easy Pass sticker in order to get on the toll road.
We called the Izmir rental office - No answer.
Both numbers - No answer.
Roadside assistance number on the key - gave us new numbers to try. No answer.
Called the main office to try customer relations - No answer.
Called the Ankara office - They gave us the same numbers we already had.
We called again - No answer.
Roadside Assistance stopped picking up the phone.
We did this for two hours.
The guy who ran the sticker purchasing service insisted on giving us tea - It was the most delicious tea I've had so far in Turkey.
We called our hotel to get them to send a cab.
At the same time Mike got a hold of a new number and found someone who could help. Mike wouldn't let him hang up.
He said he'd be to us in an hour and a half.
The sticker service guy graciously took the phone and explained where we were on many phone calls - He was fantastic (It felt weird taking his photo so I didn't).
An hour later Ali brought us a new car and were on our way again.
We got to Sirince - And look how cute our place is...

Oh man! So glad you guys made it to Sirince OK! Hope you like it there. I expect a full report on fruit wine and pretty much everything you're eating. Ha!
ReplyDeleteYes, cute house! How was the wine? Mostly white? Flat tires...yes a pain to deal with, but in the scheme of things a minor inconvenience, also a chance to see how many people go out of their way to help. We had a flat during our Sicily trip and people really helped us...funny, like your experience, it was not the rental company that helped, but just people walking by. On to the next Adventure!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pain! Hope the wine was good. :) I love your little house. Brings back memories.
ReplyDeleteWay to hang in there! Did you check to see if there was a spare tire in the trunk? ;) JK... Beautiful house and scenery to boot.
